Job Summary



Transportation Services at the University of Colorado Boulder is now accepting applications for a Fleet Manager. This position is responsible for a wide variety of fleet management services to the Boulder, Denver, and Anschutz Campuses, including oversight of vehicle maintenance and repair, bus services, auto premium allocation, lease fleet management, vehicle accident claim processing, procurement and disposal of university vehicles and equipment, fuel management, registration and emissions testing. The manager reports to the Director of Transportation Services and collaborates with multiple stakeholders to ensure the universities' fleet vehicle and equipment program needs are met.

Transportation Services provides comprehensive transit, fleet management, and maintenance to serve the faculty, staff, students and visitors at the University of Colorado Boulder. The University of Colorado vehicle fleet numbers over 600; a robust transit system moving 1.4 million riders per year at the University of Colorado-Boulder campus; and guidance for driver operations for campuses located in Aurora, Boulder, and Denver.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


Fleet Management




+ Manage the daily functions of fleet operations, sustainability initiatives, and program growth using key performance indicators (e.g. cost per mile, frequency of unscheduled maintenance, accidents). Tracks, analyzes and reports on fleet productivity and cost management of maintenance to support decision making and makes recommendations for efficiency and program enhancements.


+ Develop contractual terms for outside vendors and ensures the fulfillment of negotiated contract requirements while complying with all federal, state and local regulations.


+ Serve as the primary point of contact regarding vehicle replacement for the Boulder, Denver and Anschutz campuses. This includes, but is not limited to providing vehicle & equipment replacement planning and analysis assistance and supporting the development and management of fuel and fleet maintenance budgets.


+ Collaborate with the TDM manager and other external partners to pursue and manage federal, state and local grant opportunities and other progressive initiatives geared toward environmental stewardship and meeting university sustainability objectives for fleet operations.


+ Provide oversight on preventive maintenance programs, coordination with manufacturers, accounting and controlling on fleet maintenance budgets and approval procedures for vehicle repairs. Support the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in the general operation of the maintenance repair shop to include work order scheduling, researching parts and pricing, safety compliance and proper work standards.


+ Oversee record keeping requirements related to fleet maintenance repair, acquisition, and disposal as required by federal and state agencies.


+ Manage the purchasing and inventory of fuel management (gasoline and diesel fuel supply).


+ Serve as a transportation and fleet trainer as needed.

+ Supervise the work unit and all related staff.


+ Hire, train and evaluate all work unit staff, as well as plan, organize, and assign their day-to-day work assignments.






What We Can Offer


The anticipated starting salary for this position is $75,000, commensurate with skills and experience.

What We Require





+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University.


+ Five years of supervisory experience in fleet repair and maintenance operations, vehicle procurement and replacement programs, computerized fleet information and reporting system. SUBSTITUTION: Additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.


+ Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within three months of hire) to properly test drive, procure, and dispose of the university's diverse vehicle and equipment fleet.

+ Knowledge of MS Office, relational databases, and spreadsheet software.


+ Be able to successfully manage support staff.







What We Would Like You To Have





+ Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).


+ Seven years of progressive responsibility for managing programs based on DOT and DOE regulations in a fleet environment.


+ Experience in property and passenger carrying vehicles of varying sizes and utility.


+ Demonstrated understanding of capital asset management planning, including ROI analysis, utilization and maintenance costs, depreciation and replacement.


+ Demonstrated knowledge and commitment of sustainable transportation and logistics planning, design and operations.


+ Management-level experience in an organization using the Asset Works data information system and/or familiarity with Crystal reporting.


+ Accreditation as a Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM), Certification in Transportation and Logistics (CTL), or equivalent relevant certification.


+ Familiarity with State of Colorado transportation regulations.
